Al Unlocked – Progressive Looks: Soulcalibur VI (Part 0)

Time played: 0 hours

Fighting games always used to turn me off more than any other video game genre, and I wouldn’t be into them until late 2014. The one single exception to that rule was Soul Calibur. I was pretty much raised exclusively on Nintendo adventure games and platformers, so imagine my curiosity when I read about this fighting game featuring Link from The Legend of Zelda called Soul Calibur II. I was treated to a phenomenal 3D fighting game with a focus on weapons that became my first fighting game love. Soul Calibur remained my go-to fighting game series until I felt burned by IV, and eventually skipped V entirely. Soul Calibur VI looks like a return to form for the series, while also adding a super meter and a new technique called Reversal Edge into the mix, and featuring Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher series.

In particular I’m most excited to see if the single player offering in Soul Calibur VI has been improved since IV and V, and how expansive the character creation mode is. I’m also curious to see if my Zasalamel has improved since I played him in III (I don’t expect Link or Yoda to make a comeback in the series at all). Will I enjoy the series again? We’ll find out as we go along. Stay tuned!
